Hopefully, Windsor Green residents are reading this in a newspaper that just arrived on their doorstep. A few weeks ago, door-to-door deliveries to the condominium townhouse community abruptly stopped when the carrier who had delivered them for almost 20 years resigned the day before publication. Because this carrier worked for the Home Owners Association (HOA), the newspaper itself has not delivered to the complex and couldn’t react quickly enough to substitute, nor did it have permission from the HOA to do so. In fact, it was too late to stop the printing and 700 newspapers were recycled.
Permission Granted
After some fast footwork by all concerned and much-appreciated cooperation from Windsor Green’s HOA and management company (CVI, Inc.) the News Review now has permission to deliver door-to-door and has rapidly synched up to do so. Three substitute carriers from the current crew are distributing the papers for the first time this week with a rookie starting out for next week. Writing this several days earlier, fingers are crossed for a successful venture.
Calling New Carriers
The News Review would like to recruit carriers from Windsor Green or nearby in Greenbelt East to deliver to Windsor Green. It’s simple to apply and each route currently pays $10 per week. The complex will be divided into five routes, each taking between an hour and an hour-and-a-half to complete. Newspaper bundles are dropped off on Thursday mornings for delivery by Friday at 5 p.m., so carriers have some latitude in the actual time of delivery and can work around other commitments. Carriers can be of any age (our oldest was about 90 when he retired). To apply, contact circ@greenbeltnewsreview.com
Future-Proofing
Going forward, the News Review intends to continue deliveries to Windsor Green of a newspaper that is an important element in keeping our city a fine place to live. Not everywhere is fortunate enough to deliver to its households a quality publication that so reflects its city’s life. On the scale of a small city, the web is not always the best source of information about local issues and activities – and the News Review concentrates it all in one place.
The Greenbelt News Review has been keeping Greenbelt great for 85 years, and plans to continue doing so. Volunteers to write, coordinate and help with business functions are always welcome. For more information, contact Editor@greenbeltnewsreview.com.
