Mark your calendars for a special fundraiser at the New Deal Café on Thursday, July 20 from 7 to 10 p.m. in support of the much-loved Greenbelt Labor Day Festival. Gather together for an evening of fantastic music and community spirit, all while contributing to the success of this cherished Festival.
Kicking off the fun are homegrown favorites The Bachelor and the Bad Actress. The dynamic duo of Joe P Swelterpants and the fabulous Hillary will captivate you with their anarchic honky-tonk tunes. Expect foot-stomping rhythms and infectious melodies that will keep you dancing.
At 8 p.m., Griefcat (Louisa Hall and Annie Nardolilli) takes the stage with their extraordinary repertoire. Their original songs range from side-splittingly hilarious to deeply heartfelt, channeling a unique blend of Flight of the Conchords, a sprinkle of Dolly Parton and a touch of indie flair. Griefcat will take you on a musical journey through the trials, joys and tribulations of modern life.
Starting at 9 p.m., Greenbelt Honk! Situation will wrap up the evening with their unique blend of funky street band music and dancing.
All three bands have generously agreed to donate all tips received during the event to the Labor Day Festival.
The pandemic years have been challenging for the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival, resulting in financial setbacks. To ensure that this year’s event is a resounding success, the Festival Committee is calling on the community to rally together to support the Festival. All donations received by Tuesday, August 8 will be acknowledged in the News Review pull-out, and all donations at or above $250 are eligible for special recognition on stage as a band sponsor. Donations of any level can be made through the website greenbeltlaborday.com/sponsors or via PayPal or just bring cash to stuff the tip jars at the New Deal Café on Thursday.
