On Sunday, March 31 from 2 to 4 p.m., an opening reception will be held for Greenbelt artist Amanda Demos Larsen’s exhibit, Look, at the Maryland Milestones Heritage Center Gallery, 4318 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville. The paintings in this exhibit are all portraits of women; one is a self-portrait. The artist explained, “This series of portraits represents women that I personally know. Their gaze heavenward leaves you wondering what has drawn their attention. Is it the weather? A heavenly messenger? Or just the voice of someone they know? Are they contemplating their spirituality? Or God? Or simply trying to remember their password? They are Madonna-esque,
yet quotidianly human. Calmly self-aware and vulnerably insecure, caught in the act of looking up and captured, frozen in place.”
Larsen lives in Greenbelt with John, Zoe, Raphael, Theophilos and Ole Larsen. She received her MFA in 2011 from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., and is currently an arts education specialist for Greenbelt Recreation Arts. To RSVP or for more information, contact
