The city council’s regular meeting of April 11 opened with an opportunity for councilmembers and residents to recognize the work of the communications specialists of the Greenbelt Police Department.
Twenty-five years ago the Congress and president of the United States designated the second week in April as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, a time to salute public safety personnel. The proclamation read by Mayor Emmett Jordan in recognition of Telecommunications Week stressed that these “unseen first responders” have a difficult job and play a vital role in emergency situations where both citizens and police officers must rely upon their ability to convey timely and accurate information.
