The Golden Age Club wishes to thank all who supported their successful bake sale at the Labor Day Festival. Proceeds from this annual sale are donated by the club to the scholarship fund for the recreation department’s summer camps. The club has hosted interesting speakers in the past two months. In September, retired professor Harriette Phelps, a club member, talked about her projects, some still ongoing, uncovering chemical pollutants in the Anacostia River.
The October speaker was Jemel Straughn from Doctors Community Hospital, who led a discussion on good nutrition and cancer prevention. The final two October meetings are just for fun. October 24 is Bingo day. On October 31 the club will have an informal socializing event, serving tea and cookies. New members are always welcome. Stop by to visit any Wednesday. All meetings are held in Room 201 of the Community Center from 11 a.m. to noon.
