The Greenbelt Arts Center (GAC) is partnering with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)/Prince George’s County for their current production of Perfect Arrangement. The play addresses gay issues in the 1950s and a portion of the proceeds from the show will go toward addressing the needs of vulnerable youth in foster care, many of whom are LGBTQ. CASA recruits citizens from the community and provides intensive training and supervision so that they can become advocates for abused and neglected youth in foster care. Empowered with a court order, volunteers not only provide information to the court to aid in making informed decisions that are in the best interest of the youth, but also become a positive, consistent person in the youth’s life. CASA’s main goal through this partnership with GAC is to bring attention to the need for more volunteers to advocate on behalf of the 500 young people living in foster care in Prince George’s County. On Monday, March 11 at 6 p.m., an information session will be held at CASA’s offices in Riverdale for those interested in learning more about becoming a CASA volunteer. The next training will start in April. To RSVP for the information session or request more information, email recruitment@ pgcasa.org or call 301-209-0491. Perfect Arrangement runs weekends through Saturday, February 23. After the show on Sunday, February 17, there will be an opportunity to talk with the cast and John Stoltenberg a radical feminist activist, author and editor about the Lavender Scare, LGBTQ issues, acting, comedy and more. This will be facilitated by Dr. Adria Williams, a clinical psychologist with a practice in Greenbelt. For more information visit greenbeltartscenter.org.
