Contractors for Franklin Park shut off air conditioning to three apartment buildings Wednesday, July 3, to repair a broken HVAC cold water line. They worked into the evening hours to fix the pipe and finished work by 2 a.m. Thursday morning, in time for the July 4 holiday. While the repairs were being completed, the City of Greenbelt, offering its help to Franklin Park residents, sent out a notice on Facebook that listed the cooling centers where affected residents could go. Residents, who were initially told the air conditioning could be shut off indefinitely, were relieved it was only off for the day.
