for the Visual Arts (GAVA) artist, George Kochell, aka “Mister Geo,” is helping Mrs. Polston’s fourth grade media students at Greenbelt Elementary School complete a new arts integration project called My Graphic Novel Character. Students are drawing characters based on their favorite collections or creating their own original characters that could be featured in a graphic novel. Working directly on the iPad, using the Doink Animation app, fourth-graders will soon have moving characters demonstrating traits and super powers. This project is one of many funded by The Family Art Fund at Greenbelt Elementary, which was created by the PTA and the nonprofit GAVA, bringing local artists into the school to interweave the arts into the curriculum to make learning more engaging and meaningful.
