Participating in the November 7 city council election – by running for office, signing a candidate’s petition or voting – requires being registered with Prince George’s County at a residence address that lies within the boundaries of the City of Greenbelt. At the 2015 election, the new residential streets at Greenbelt Station marked the first expansion in the city’s address list for voting since 2001. Since then, many more potential voters have moved to Greenbelt West. For those not already registered, the deadline for registering to vote in the November 7 election is Tuesday, October 10. This deadline also applies to making changes to one’s name or address. Usually, the deadline is the fifth Monday before the election, but that day is Columbus Day and a holiday for county offices this year. Registrations must be received by the Prince George’s County Board of Elections no later than 4:30 p.m. at 1100 Mercantile Lane, Suite 115A, in Largo. Since glitches may occur at any level, would-be voters are advised not to wait until the last minute.
