Greenbelt Police Chief Robert Bowers was busy at the April 8 meeting of the Greenbelt City Council. He introduced Greenbelt’s newest police officer and, along with one of his officers, provided information on several programs in which his department is participating. In addition, council introduced a resolution authorizing replacement of all the department’s weapons and heard an update on the status of the WMATA trail.
Police
Mayor Emmett Jordan swore in Leon Scales, formerly with the Bladensburg police force, as Greenbelt’s newest officer.
Weapons
Council introduced for first reading a resolution to authorize the negotiated purchase of police service weapons. The contract was awarded to Atlantic Tactical for $39,034 for the weapons and holsters. Although Atlantic was not the lowest bidder, the difference between the top two bidders was small. Furthermore, the department valued Atlantic’s demonstrated history of superior customer support.
