On June 16, County Councilmember Ingrid Watson, whose district includes Greenbelt, hosted a Meet and Greet luncheon with the Golden Age Club. It was a chance for senior citizens to meet Watson informally and discuss issues of importance. The wonderful buffet from Mission Barbeque was an added attraction.
As some of the seniors have limited walking abilities, Watson and her staff helped serve a number of the guests. She then provided a brief update on items of interest to Greenbelt seniors. Watson reflected on the current county budget, stating that over 60 percent is allocated for education, with an additional 25 percent for public safety. Much of the budget comes from individual taxpayers and she is working to increase the number of businesses in the county to increase tax revenue.
Watson said the county is keeping an eye on the Bureau of Engraving and Printing development on the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. The subject of violence came up and Watson indicated that a future town hall meeting is being planned to address violence.
