Maria Gutierrez, Greenbelt resident and owner/founder of Wylo Online Dry Cleaning
(getwylo.com), was recognized by the Maryland National Guard for the support her company provided to the 115th Military Police Battalion. Gutierrez stated, “It’s been a real honor to serve them during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
According to the Certificate of Appreciation issued on May 8 by Maryland National Guard Brigadier General Janeen L. Birckhead, Wylo Online Laundry was recognized “for outstanding support to the men and women of the Maryland Army National Guard during this historic COVID-19 Pandemic response. [Wylo’s] generosity and support directly and positively impacted the morale of our soldiers and allowed them to focus 100 percent of their energies into supporting our communities in this time of crisis and need.” A second certificate was also given, representing the members of the 115th Military Police Battalion and signed by Military Police Commander Harry R. Wille and Command Sergeant Major Richard J. Magnum.
Wylo is a different sort of cleaners because, according to Gutierrez, “Wylo is the first online dry-cleaning company servicing Greenbelt…. We offer an easy way to request, manage and monitor online dry cleaning and wash-and-fold services directly from our mobile app or website. We are a woman-owned company committed to making the lives of our customers easier.” Wylo opened to the public in February 2019.
Like many businesses, Wylo experienced a sharp downturn during the COVID-19 outbreak. Gutierrez stated, “Since people are working from home, we had a dramatic drop in sales. We were really concerned with the situation, and trying to figure out how to get through these difficult times. We were blessed to find the 115th Military Police Battalion of the Maryland Army National Guard who needed the wash-and-fold service for almost two months. They really helped us sustain our business and gave us hope that we could find a solution to keep our company open.”
