Published continuously since the New Deal City of Greenbelt was founded in 1937, the News Review is delivered free to most Greenbelt residents. In 1970 we won a landmark First Amendment case in the Supreme Court. 

Snow Blankets Greenbelt, Causes Closures, Brings Out Shovels, Sleds

Greenbelt experienced its largest snowfall since 2022, with the National Weather Service recording seven inches for the city. The snowstorm was anticipated, with Governor Wes Moore declaring a state of emergency on Sunday due to predictions of eight to 12 inches in some regions of the state. Greenbelt’s Public Works Department readied its snow plows and salted roads ahead of the storm. 

The anticipated snow began to fall steadily overnight into the early hours of Monday morning. Greenbelt residents reported totals of seven to eight inches by the time snow ended late Monday. The federal government, many businesses and in Greenbelt city offices and facilities were closed Monday and Tuesday. Children enjoyed several snow days for Prince George’s County Public Schools were closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. In spite of the frigid temperatures, kids and adults alike got outside to enjoy the unusual weather – playing, sledding, skiing or just shoveling the white stuff.
