A bitter chill descended upon Thanksgiving Day this year but that didn’t stop members of the Greenbelt community from waking up bright and early to participate in one of its beloved Thanksgiving traditions: the Gobble Wobble Family Fun Run & Walk.
As community members began lining up at the starting line, organizers announced that this year’s Gobble Wobble run would go on record as one of the coldest runs since the tradition began. The announcement was met with cheers and laughter from participants ranging from adults to young children. There were even a few canine family members who participated in the event.
This year marks 13 consecutive years for the Gobble Wobble, according to Sports and Recreation Coordinator Andrew Phelan. It is a tradition, he said, that encourages the Greenbelt community to be healthy. Each year, Greenbelt Recreation prepares for about 200 participants for the race.
“One of our roles as Greenbelt Recreation is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle,” said Phelan. “The Gobble Wobble has become a family-friendly tradition that gets our community of all ages healthy and active.”
