After diligent safety preparations and extensive staff training, Greenbelt Recreation will ease into the reopening of the Greenbelt Aquatic & Fitness Center (GAFC) Outdoor Pool on Monday, August 3 at 7 a.m. This first phase of reopening will require reservations for use. All participants must be over 14 years of age, and either Greenbelt residents or GAFC members. The only activities allowed during this first phase will be lap swimming and water walking. It will not be open for recreational swimming and playing.
The strictly limited use of the outdoor pool at this time is due to COVID-19-related precautions and social distancing requirements as set forth by the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County and GAFC. A list of rules, fees, reservation policies, and entrance and exit policies is posted on the GAFC website at greenbeltmd.gov/gafc. It is important to review this information prior to making a reservation and visiting the outdoor pool. As Prince George’s County Health Department guidance changes over time, the Recreation department will look toward minimizing these restrictions at GAFC.
GAFC Supervisor Stephen Parks said, “The preparations and safety measures that were put in place prior to this first phase of reopening were extensive. We are all dealing with an unprecedented situation and we are not willing to take chances with the safety of our staff and patrons.”
Reservation information will be available on the Virtual Recreation Center in the “Recreation Facilities” section at greenbeltmd.gov/recreation.
