On Monday, February 8, the officers and members of Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department (GVFD) were joined by members of the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, Greenbelt Police Department, Glenn Dale Volunteer Fire Department (Company 18), the Metropolitan Police Department, Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department Truck 1 and Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department Truck 14 to provide a funeral escort for FF/EMT/MPD Reserve Officer Brian Bregman. Bregman was found dead on February 3 in his apartment in Laurel after police responded to a burglary alarm, according to the Laurel Police Department.
GVFD said that Bregman joined the fire service in 1998 at Company 30 in Landover Hills. He was also a member at Company 48 West Lanham Hills Volunteer Fire Department prior to joining GVFD in 2006. During his tenure with the fire service, Bregman held numerous officer positions, including the emergency medical services liaison position (Car 6099) and served as legal counsel for the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. In addition to his fire service involvement, Bregman was a reserve officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C.
“We also want to sincerely thank all of the companies and personnel that staged apparatus along the route to honor Brian. We said our final goodbyes to Brian, who was a brother, son, friend and colleague to many – you may be gone, but your spirit of service will live on,” GVFD said in their post on Monday.
