At the end of the month, David Moran is retiring from his position as assistant city manager.
Moran started working for the city on March 13, 1995, as a paid student intern and was hired to classified service as the city clerk on July 31, 1995. He served in that position for four years and became the assistant city manager on July 1, 1999.
While in that position, Moran earned a master’s degree in public administration. He took on many responsibilities including developing the city’s Legislative Program and monitoring state and county legislation throughout the year. He also managed the Community Development Block grant program, was essential to the development of the city’s Annual Budget, overseeing Capital Projects, Building Capital Reserve and Replacement Funds, and assisted with preparation and analysis of other budgets.
Moran worked on and oversaw countless special projects including the Electricity Purchasing Cooperative, Biennial Election Questionnaire, Playground Agreement, Emergency Preparedness and Memorial Guidelines, creation of the GAIL program, Energy Performance Contracting and Peace Month Programs.
Moran also served as the liaison to the Community Relations Advisory Board and was the supervisor of the Greenbelt Museum staff.
He was born and raised in the City of Greenbelt, where his parents were also active in the community. Throughout his 22 years as assistant city manager, he carried out his duties with dedication, care and enthusiasm. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues, city council and the residents of the City of Greenbelt.
