Construction Materials Cause Fire at Greenbelt Elementary

At approximately 10:53 p.m. on Monday, July 15 a fire was reported at Greenbelt Elementary School. Neighbors reported hearing an explosion prior to the fire. Engines from multiple fire departments responded, including Berwyn Heights and College Park. The section of Ridge Road surrounding the school was closed. The fire was put out approximately 50 minutes later at 11:40 p.m.

Preliminary reports say the fire was limited to roofing material and equipment located on-site. No damage was reported to the school and there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation at press time.

At nighttime, firefighters in reflective gear stand by the corner of the brick elementary school building. At right, a fire truck has red lights shining.
