At a January 4 special meeting the Greenbelt City Council approved sending a letter to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) supporting the building of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) headquarters on what is now the parking lot of the Greenbelt Metro station. The letter, a response to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), also identified some areas of concern. The letter states that “It is our strong belief that the Greenbelt site is the best location for a consolidated FBI headquarters.” The letter further stated, “[We] are confident the site provides the greatest benefits for FBI employees, our citizens and the region.” The GSA has selected three locations as potential sites for the FBI headquarters: the Greenbelt Metro site, the former Landover Mall location and a site owned by GSA in Springfield, Virginia. The DEIS compared the impact of each site on a variety of environmental, social and economic conditions and all the material on the ongoing decision-making process can be found at http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/192223.
