Classified Ads

Classified ads are text only and are published in the classifieds section of the newspaper as a group.  No decorative elements, boxes, color or highlights are permitted.  The first 15 words will cost $4. Each additional 1-5 words cost $1. For example, ads with 16 – 20 words will cost $5. In counting words, every space is considered to separate two words.  So 301-474-4131 is one word and (301) 474-4131 is two words.

Display Ads

Display ads include graphics, color (included) and boxes and may appear anywhere except Page 1.  Preferential placement is available (subject to availability and editorial approval) on payment of a 25% surcharge. Rates are based on customer-provided camera-ready ad copy or copy requiring only basic set-up.  Graphics help may be available with notice and at a separate charge. Pricing: A column inch (CI) represents a printed area that is 1 column wide and 1″ high.  For example, an ad two columns wide and 3″ high would be 2 cols x 3″ = 6 column inches. Heights are rounded up to the nearest half inch. Ad Widths match the width of the newspaper’s columns.  There are only five permissible widths. These are:
  • 1.9375” (1 column);
  • 4” (2 columns); 6.125” (3 columns);
  • 8.1825” (4 columns) or 10.25” (full page width).
Ads not set at one these exact widths on submission will be adjusted to fit, affecting height proportionally and possibly the cost.   Basic Rate (Tier A)  $10.90/column-inch per publication. Nonprofit   $7.70/column-inch.  Churches and 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible. Discounts: Volume discounts are based on ad volume during a 13-week period. At least two insertions are required to qualify. See Tier B though D below. Rates shown are net of commission.

Other Display Ad Charges

Legal Notices:  Legal notices are charged by the word and the size of the font.  The standard charge is based on our standard 9 point Times New Roman text for such ads.  Smaller or larger font sizes are available but TNR is standard and ads may be multiple columns.

Please contact the ad department for a quote.

Certification and Notarization: Some advertisers require a certification of their ads for legal purposes.  The charge is $15 for certification.  If the certification must be notarized, there is an additional $15 fee.  This charge is for the entire run of a particular ad – so, for example, if an ad is set to run for three weeks, only ONE certification and notarization charge will be assessed.

Preferred Placement Charge: 25% extra, $10.00 minimum upcharge. Preferred placement is a guaranteed location in the newspaper specified by the advertiser, with first-come, first-served. Such placements include the last page (where priority is given to the requesting advertiser with the largest ad). The type of ad permitted on some pages is limited and the front page never contains advertising. For more information, email the ad desk at ads@greenbeltnewsreview.com

The News Review can insert pre-printed materials (e.g., flyers, brochures) within the newspaper at the time of printing for distribution throughout the city. Email the Ad Desk for further information at ads@greenbeltnewsreview.com
