The paper, published by the Greenbelt Cooperative Publishing Association, Inc., was established in 1937 shortly after the construction of Greenbelt, one of The New Deal Green Towns. It has been published weekly without interruption since that time and is delivered free to most Greenbelt residents.

Organized as a worker cooperative, it is staffed and owned by its members who are eligible to receive dividends for their participation. It is also supported by a a small group of part time employees who provide essential skills.
Delivered free of charge to most Greenbelt residents and available throughout the community, the publication has become a cornerstone of local life, reflecting the cooperative spirit and rich history of the town. For decades, it has connected residents with stories, updates, and events, fostering a sense of community and continuity in Greenbelt.
