Nearly 100 fifth-graders from Greenbelt Elementary School (GES) received their certificates of promotion at a ceremony at Eleanor Roosevelt High School on June 9, as hundreds of enthusiastic family members and friends cheered them on. The students entered in a grand procession and sang Best Day of My Life. Principal Joel Nelson and Assistant Principal Sharelle Stagg called each student onto the stage and handed out certificates and special awards.
Speakers included Dr. Monica Gaines (former GES principal), Kensington Clark and Maeve Waters from the Student Government Association and student representatives from each of the four classes: Muhammed Hassan, Takaiyah Howell, Zina Usmanu and Marli Shelby. Principal Nelson also recognized the many community members who volunteered their time to support the school this year. The event was a great way for the students to finish their time at GES. On to middle school!
