The City of Greenbelt has been moving toward the adoption of Complete and Green Street principles for years and in many respects has been walking the walk without having formally adopted a policy. According to a memorandum prepared by Community Planner Molly Porter, staff of the Department of Planning and Community Development first drafted a Complete and Green Streets policy in 2011. Since then staff have continued to research best practices in policy formation and implementation and to review the policies of other jurisdictions in the region and nationally.
The result was a substantively revised draft that went forward to a Greenbelt City Council worksession on June 12, following positive reviews by the city’s Advisory Planning Board and the Greenbelt Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability (GreenACES). A handful of modifications was requested by city councilmembers at the worksession.
