Greenbelt will hold its annual Independence Day celebration on Wednesday, July 4 at Buddy Attick Park. There will be festivities for family and friends of all ages, including a drum circle and a band concert, topped off by a
fireworks display.
The drum circle will run from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Aspiring percussionists of all ages are welcome to join and perform on their own instruments or borrow ones available while supplies last. The Greenbelt Concert Band
then will perform a variety of patriotic songs and melodies from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dark, around 9 p.m., and last about 25 minutes. The best viewing spots along the Lake will be claimed first. Those who come early can bring a blanket and picnic and enjoy a leisurely holiday afternoon socializing and enjoying free entertainment and activities for all ages, from romping in the playground to strolling around the park’s lovely 1.3-mile wooded trail.
Police Presence
The Greenbelt Police Department asks for everyone’s cooperation in making this a safe event. Department employees will host a tent in the grassy area by the main parking lot to help with lost children. There will also be a cooling and first aid station manned by the Greenbelt Citizens Emergency Response Team, CERT, which will have some cooling chairs to offer additional relief to those in need.
