Author David Cooper and illustrator Lucy Dirksen will be having a book signing for their self-published novel A Glimpse Through the Mists, as well as an exhibition of Dirksen’s artwork, on Sunday, February 26 at 2 to 4 p.m. at the New Deal Café. Both are long-time Greenbelt residents.
The product of 10 years of work for Cooper, the novel is a medieval fantasy inspired by the epic poem of Edmund Spenser, The Faerie Queene. Cooper uses Spenser’s Fairielande as one of the settings. In the novel, realms of magic and non-magic collide, the adventure played out by “knights and ladies.” According to Cooper, “the setting [is an] undefined country which is similar to British culture.” He goes on to say that “a central theme running through the story line is love and the major characters are learning about some aspect of love.” He would “define the book as a series of interconnected love stories.”
