The regular city council meeting of September 12 opened with the presentation of two proclamations from the mayor. One, accepted by Erin Josephitis, the city’s environmental coordinator, declared September 24 to be National Public Lands Day in Greenbelt. This year the centerpiece volunteer activity was a project to improve Greenbelt’s historic Turner Family Cemetery, which is off Ivy Lane near the Greenbelt Cemetery. The other proclamation declared September to be National Preparedness Month, which is supported by activities of both the Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) and the Greenbelt Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
