This has been a tumultuous year for law enforcement across the country. This didn’t dampen the spirits of police officers or residents at Greenbelt’s annual celebration of National Night Out on August 2. The series of community events were an excellent opportunity to build bridges between law enforcement and the community. According to Greenbelt’s website “National Night Out is a cohesive effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.” Beginning in 1984, National Night Out is celebrated nationwide on the first Tuesday in August.
