On Saturday, October 8,
Roosevelt Center treats the community to music, dancing, quilts, special family activities and bubbles, bubbles everywhere. This year’s Crazy Quilt Music Festival marks a special celebration of the New Deal Café’s 27 years of being Greenbelt’s community living room by providing a festival of eclectic music: drums, folk, bluegrass, blues, world, brass party grooves and classic rock. This lineup, like a crazy quilt of different patterns, shapes and colors, reflects the diverse music featured at the Café. Original quilts will be hung for viewing all around Roosevelt Center. All events are free and open to the public beginning 11 a.m. and ending 11 p.m.
The lineup of bands include:
Community Drum Circle with Katy Gaughan (Drums), Grief Cat (Folk), Rock Creek Revival (Blue Grass), Dirty Soul (Blues), Dogo Du Togo (World), Black Masala (Brass Party Grooves) and Just Stones (Classic Rock, inside the Café during the evening).
Kids’ Stuff
Kids will enjoy a special community art project and can decorate the sidewalks with chalk in addition to dancing to the music. And BYOBB (Bring Your Own Bubble Blaster) which is any toy that “shoots” bubbles.
Booths
For shopping pleasures, an array of vendors will be available. The original Eleanor Roosevelt festival T-shirt will be available in multiple colors and sizes. In case of inclement weather, the festival will move inside the New Deal Café.
