Volunteering

The Greenbelt News Review has been produced by its volunteers and members and delivered to the Greenbelt community since 1937 without having missed one issue! This remarkable feat would not have been possible without the commitment and hard work of many hundreds of dedicated individuals over the years.

After a short introductory period, volunteers are eligible to become members – who, as in any worker cooperative, are part owners of the newspaper.  A member is eligible for dividends that represent their share in the profits of the newspaper.  These are token amounts tied to work done by the member and should not be considered as pay.  They are, however, taxable as income and members receive an IRS 1099-PATR if they receive $10 or more in dividends in a year.  Members may also elect to decline dividends – which results in their portion of the profits remaining in the newspaper to help finance its operations and initiatives.  Members receiving dividends will be asked for their social security number at the point of eligibility.

We welcome, and need, fresh thoughts and new faces, hands and brains, and insights from Greenbelt’s diverse population to allow our paper to continue its proud tradition and serve all Greenbelters. You can become a part of this group by offering your skills, interest and experience in a volunteer position with the paper.
